Au milieu de la surabondance d'offres sportives lors des « Upfronts », les propositions axées sur les données et l'IA occupent le devant de la scène

Les entreprises historiques NBCU et Disney, les géants de la technologie Netflix et Amazon, ainsi que les éditeurs issus de fusions-acquisitions, ont présenté à New York leurs offres en constante évolution.

 

Lors des présentations « upfront » de la semaine dernière, les principaux groupes médiatiques ont déployé tous leurs atouts pour s'assurer des budgets publicitaires, en faisant appel à des stars hollywoodiennes et à des effets audiovisuels spectaculaires afin de mettre en valeur leurs grilles de programmes et leurs offres numériques. Au-delà de ces spectacles parfois très théâtraux, plusieurs éléments ont rappelé à quel point ces présentations continuent d'évoluer pour s'adapter aux changements de comportement des consommateurs et aux exigences des annonceurs.

 

« Le changement le plus marquant à l’approche des Upfronts de cette année, c’est que la télévision n’est plus cantonnée à des attentes de mesure axées uniquement sur la notoriété », a déclaré YJ Kim, directeur stratégique du cabinet de conseil AI Digital, dans des commentaires transmis par e-mail. « L’audience premium reste importante, mais c’est de plus en plus l’impact commercial mesurable qui permet de débloquer des budgets supplémentaires. »

 

Plusieurs thèmes se sont dégagés lors des « upfronts » organisés par des éditeurs historiques tels que NBCUniversal, Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery et Fox, ainsi que par les géants de la technologie Netflix et Amazon, qui sont des nouveaux venus dans le domaine de la publicité télévisée. Marketing Dive était sur place à New York pour assister à ces présentations et a rassemblé les points clés d’une série d’exposés qui présentaient plus de points communs que de différences.

 

Victoire lors d'un événement sportif en direct

 

Les sitcoms et les séries dramatiques d'une heure, qui dominaient auparavant les « upfronts », semblaient reléguées au second plan dans des présentations de plus en plus dominées par le sport.

 

NBCU étend sa stratégie sportive du dimanche soir du football américain au basket-ball et au baseball, offrant ainsi aux annonceurs des opportunités plus régulières tout au long de l'année. Sa chaîne Telemundo diffusera également 700 heures de programmes consacrés à la Coupe du monde de la FIFA et sera présente sur place lors des 104 matchs de ce tournoi de football. De son côté, Fox diffusera un nombre record de 70 matchs de la Coupe du monde sur sa chaîne nationale, dont 40 en prime time.

 

« Cette semaine, vous allez beaucoup entendre parler de l’intérêt du sport en direct et du streaming financé par la publicité. Chez Fox, ce n’est pas une nouveauté : c’est ce que nous proposons avec succès depuis des années », a déclaré Lachlan Murdoch, PDG de Fox, lors de la présentation de l’entreprise. « Fox est le leader de la programmation en direct et héberge l’une des plateformes de streaming financées par la publicité qui connaît la croissance la plus rapide du secteur. Cette combinaison n’est pas le fruit du hasard — elle est délibérée. »

 

Les plateformes de streaming Netflix et Amazon ont mis en avant leur offre consacrée à la NFL : la première a ajouté trois matchs supplémentaires à son programme, tandis que la seconde continue de remporter un franc succès avec ses émissions consacrées au football américain. L’émission « Thursday Night Football » d’Amazon Prime Video a enregistré son audience la plus élevée sur l’ensemble d’une saison depuis ses débuts il y a 20 ans, et la retransmission du match de barrage par la plateforme a attiré 31,6 millions de téléspectateurs — ce qui en fait le match de NFL le plus regardé en streaming de tous les temps.

 

« Les spectateurs de Prime ne se contentent pas de regarder, ils s’impliquent », a déclaré Charissa Thompson, commentatrice sportive sur Prime Video, lors de la présentation des programmes d’Amazon. « Notre public est plus jeune et plus enclin à interagir avec les marques présentées dans les publicités que les téléspectateurs sportifs de n’importe quelle chaîne linéaire. »

 

Pour ne pas être en reste, Disney se prépare à ce que Rita Ferro, directrice de la publicité, a qualifié de « plus grande année de son histoire », avec des événements culturels phares tels que les Oscars, les Grammys, les programmes du réveillon du Nouvel An, le championnat universitaire de football américain et — pour la première fois — la retransmission du Super Bowl à la fois sur ESPN et sur ABC. Selon Mme Ferro, l’entreprise prévoit une hausse de 55 % des impressions liées à la NFL par rapport à l’année précédente et compte s’approprier 40 % de l’ensemble des impressions liées au football américain, toutes saisons confondues (universitaire et professionnelle).

 

« Sur un marché où tout le monde se précipite pour assembler ce que nous avons déjà, Disney est dans une catégorie à part », a déclaré Josh D’Amaro lors de sa première présentation « upfront » en tant que PDG de Disney.

 

Les données sont essentielles

 

Au-delà du sport, tous les éditeurs présents lors des « Upfronts » se sont positionnés comme des piliers des communautés de fans, qui stimulent l'engagement envers les marques grâce à des technologies basées sur les données et l'intelligence artificielle. Ces atouts permettent de relier les différents maillons de la chaîne : achat, optimisation et mesure des campagnes, que ce soit sur les chaînes linéaires, en streaming ou au-delà.

 

Peut-être aucune autre entreprise ne peut-elle mieux revendiquer son statut de leader dans le domaine des données qu’Amazon. Le géant de la technologie rassemble désormais plus de 300 millions de consommateurs exposés à des publicités aux États-Unis à travers l’ensemble de son portefeuille, ce qui lui confère la plus grande audience authentifiée du secteur — 90 % des foyers américains — et contribue à réduire le gaspillage tout en générant des taux de clics et des conversions plus élevés.

 

« Ces signaux ne sont pas modélisés. Ils ne reposent pas sur des hypothèses. Ils reposent sur la confiance », a déclaré Tanner Elton, vice-président des ventes publicitaires aux États-Unis chez Amazon, lors de son intervention à l’occasion des Upfronts. « Ces signaux nous offrent une précision inégalée. Cette précision stimule la performance, et cette performance génère des résultats qui comptent. »

 

Fox a également mis en avant son audience de plus de 200 millions de personnes chaque mois, réparties sur plus d’un milliard d’appareils. La chaîne s’est félicitée d’une croissance à deux chiffres de son audience linéaire au cours des quatre dernières années, alors que, sur l’ensemble du secteur, cette audience a reculé de 33 %. Cette croissance a été stimulée par Tubi, racheté par Fox en 2020, tandis que la chaîne a repensé en avril ses solutions publicitaires autour de Fox AdStudio. Cette offre, qui s'appuie sur l'intelligence artificielle, propose un graphique d'audience convergent intégrant des milliards de points de données, ainsi qu'un moteur de mesure fournissant des rapports via plus de 20 partenaires de données.

 

« Les fans engagés sont vos meilleurs clients. Ils sont 21 % plus enclins à acheter vos produits et 30 % plus enclins à se souvenir de vos publicités, et c’est précisément pour cette raison que nous avons lancé Fox AdStudio et sa suite de solutions de mesure couvrant l’ensemble du funnel », a déclaré Jeff Collins, directeur publicitaire de Fox, lors des Upfronts. « À ce jour, AdStudio a fourni des rapports de résultats avancés pour plus de 1 000 campagnes, montrant des hausses à deux chiffres pour des indicateurs clés tels que les ventes en magasin et la fréquentation. »

 

Dans le cadre de sa présentation « upfront », Warner Bros. Discovery a lancé un tableau de bord « Always-On Measurement & Attribution » qui offre une visibilité en temps réel sur les performances des campagnes et permet une optimisation en cours de campagne pour atteindre les objectifs fixés. De son côté, NBCU, innovateur de longue date dans le domaine des données et de la mesure, a annoncé son intention de déployer au quatrième trimestre son « Performance Insights Hub », déjà annoncé précédemment. Cette plateforme intègre les données de mesure fournies par des entreprises de premier plan telles qu’iSpot, VideoAmp et EDO. Lors de la conférence « ufpronts », NBCU a par ailleurs révélé qu’Instacart était son partenaire exclusif en matière de résultats pour le secteur des biens de grande consommation (CPG).

 

L'IA permet la diffusion d'annonces dynamiques et contextuelles

 

Sans surprise, l'une des principales utilisations des données par les entreprises du secteur des médias consiste à développer des outils basés sur l'IA visant à rendre le processus publicitaire plus efficace et plus attrayant.

 

Amazon Ads a poursuivi le développement d’outils d’IA en dévoilant, lors de sa présentation « Upfront », « Dynamic TV Creative », une fonctionnalité qui personnalise automatiquement les publicités vidéo interactives en fonction du comportement d’achat des téléspectateurs. Cet outil s’appuie sur les données d’Amazon ainsi que sur des capacités d’optimisation créative et de gestion de campagne basées sur l’IA pour adapter le format, l’appel à l’action, le titre et les détails en fonction de l’étape à laquelle se trouvent les acheteurs dans leur parcours d’achat.

 

« Cela nous éloigne d’une approche uniforme, ce qui permet d’offrir une expérience plus pertinente aux audiences tout en rationalisant la gestion et la mise en œuvre des campagnes pour les marques, et en optimisant ainsi le rendement de leurs investissements marketing », a déclaré Fabrice Rousseau, directeur de CreativeX chez Amazon Ads, dans un communiqué de presse.

 

Cette fonctionnalité est actuellement accessible à certains annonceurs américains dans des secteurs tels que les produits de grande consommation, la mode et l'électronique, qui vendent leurs produits sur Amazon via des campagnes Prime Video. Elle sera étendue à davantage de clients et de catalogues au troisième trimestre, et est d'ores et déjà utilisée par The Hershey Company.

 

Warner Bros. Discovery a continué à développer sa gamme de solutions et de formats destinés aux annonceurs, même si le rachat de la société par Paramount représente « l’Ellison — je veux dire, l’éléphant — dans la pièce », comme l’a fait remarquer avec humour Bobby Voltaggio, coprésident des ventes publicitaires aux États-Unis chez WBD, lors de la présentation.

 

Outre les publicités « shoppable » diffusées pendant les pauses publicitaires, qui sont désormais incontournables pour les services de streaming, WBD a annoncé le lancement de « Scene Level Moments », un ciblage contextuel optimisé par Kerv.ai ; « Dynamic Creative », qui adapte les titres et les visuels publicitaires en fonction du contexte ; ainsi que « Agentic Experiences », qui tire parti de l'intérêt croissant pour la publicité de type « agent-à-agent ».

 

De même, Fox Ad Studio intègre un moteur contextuel alimenté par un modèle linguistique à grande échelle qui met en relation les marques avec les moments clés du contenu afin de permettre l’insertion publicitaire grâce à un ciblage au niveau de la scène. NBCU a également annoncé son intention d’étendre le ciblage contextuel et de déployer des agents IA fonctionnant en permanence, tandis que Netflix a souligné que ses années d’expérience en matière d’IA et d’apprentissage automatique avaient aidé des annonceurs tels que DoorDash, Target et TurboTax.

 

Le déploiement d'outils d'IA chez les éditeurs répond aux besoins des annonceurs à chaque étape de leur parcours avec cette technologie. Quatre annonceurs sur dix testent cette année des créations basées sur l'IA, tandis que plus d'un tiers d'entre eux explorent les flux de travail et les opérations basés sur l'IA, selon un rapport d'iSpot transmis à Marketing Dive.

 

« Le paysage publicitaire de 2026 se caractérise par un virage décisif vers la précision. Les spécialistes du marketing ont dépassé la phase d’expérimentation de l’IA et intègrent désormais une automatisation complète des flux de travail afin d’optimiser leur efficacité », selon le rapport 2026 d’iSpot sur les dépenses et les stratégies en matière de publicité vidéo. « Si les prévisions de dépenses restent prudemment optimistes dans un contexte de changements économiques, les budgets se concentrent de plus en plus sur les canaux offrant le plus haut niveau de responsabilisation. »

Devin Monds
Head of EMEA Sales

Devin is a dedicated and experienced media sales professional with over 15 years in the digital media space in both North America and EMEA. He most recently headed up the International Team at Adludio, the premier advertising platform for delivering strong creative on mobile devices. Prior to his role at Adludio, Devin worked on the Global Brand Partnerships team at CAA Sports in London, and was International Sales Director at LoopMe where he built out the US West Coast Sales Team from Los Angeles.     Dan Bloomfield

    Bill Roberson is the VP of Creative Strategy and Design at KERV.ai. Bringing over 17 years of experience in the digital space, Bill specializes in Media Buying, Client Services and Ad Operations, including Media Optimization and Publisher development. 

    Prior to KERV, Bill spent 10 years at Nexstar (Previously Lin Digital and Red McCombs Media). Bill’s intrinsic creativity and exposure to so many specialties within the Media landscape has allowed him to grow into the role he feels he was meant for: leading Creative Strategy and Design.

    Grant Gorton
    VP, UX & Design

    As KERV.ai’s VP of UX/UI & Design, Grant Gorton brings over 20 years of experience in design and creative direction. Before joining KERV, he specialized in packaging and branding design in Pittsburgh, PA. He then returned to his hometown of Austin, transitioning into digital media, where he built and managed a team of designers focused on creating custom rich media ad units, developing new products, and supporting branding and pitch materials.

    Since joining KERV in 2018, Grant has played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s trajectory by establishing and leading a team responsible for its branding and visual identity, event and social marketing, and web design. His team also developed KERV’s sales and marketing materials, spec documentation, and significantly contributed to the creation and design of the company’s comprehensive product offerings.

    Max Ochoa
    Chief Financial Officer

    Max Ochoa is the Chief Financial Officer at KERV.ai, where he leads the company’s financial strategy and operational planning to support KERV’s continued growth and innovation in AI-powered advertising technology.

    Max brings more than two decades of experience spanning finance, legal, and operational leadership roles at high-growth, innovative hardware and software technology companies. Most recently, he served as CFO and General Counsel at Electra, a revolutionary hybrid-electric aircraft company. Prior to Electra, Max held executive leadership positions at Satelles, Alation, Turn, Adify, and TiVo.  Earlier in his career, he worked as an associate at Cooley LLP and as an engineer at GE Aircraft Engines.

    Max holds an SB in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MS in Aerospace Engineering from The University of Michigan, and a JD from Stanford Law School. He also serves on the Board of OneJustice, a nonprofit organization focused on increasing access to pro bono legal representation in civil matters for underserved communities across California.

    In his spare time, Max enjoys swimming, singing, spirited driving, cooking, and spending time with his family and friends.

    Taylor Pate
    Chief Scientist

    Taylor Pate is the Chief Scientist at KERV Interactive, with over 16 years of experience in the advertising and creative industry, known among his peers as a technical and creative powerhouse.

    Taylor’s career began in 2008 as an animator and art director, specializing in the design and production of interactive art. He created 3D illustrations for advertisers such as HP and Dell, and developed 3D animations and tools for top video game series including Club Penguin and The Sims.

    Transitioning to focus on automation, e-commerce, and software development, Taylor joined LIN Digital in Austin, Texas. Over five years, he built a powerful framework to automate the production of thousands of rich media ads annually, developed high-performance ads for major brands, and led the engineering of PHNX, the company’s order management system that processed millions of dollars in ad campaigns monthly. He concluded his tenure at Nexstar Digital as Director of Engineering, leading a team of over 16 engineers and product managers before taking on his current role at KERV Interactive.

    Jay Wolff
    Chief Revenue Officer

    Jay Wolff is currently the Chief Revenue Officer at KERV Interactive, leading global revenue and partnerships. In addition to KERV, Jay is the President of 212NYC, New York’s leading organization for the digital advertising and the media industry. 212NYC’s mission is to build a better advertising industry by providing the programming, tools, and thought leadership to help move the industry forward.

    Jay’s expertise in scaling significant revenue and partner growth in the advertising industry spans 20 years. Most recently, Jay served as Chief Revenue Officer of Varick Media, and Chief Growth Officer at Boostr, the first end-to-end SaaS revenue management system for media companies. Previously, as Regional Vice President of SambaTV, Wolff built the revenue organization and east coast market from the ground up to $100M in revenue. Jay has been tapped for industry thought leadership and panel participation by the likes of Mediapost, Ad Age, and Digiday. 

    Prior to joining SambaTV, Wolff served as Vice President of agency and brand partnerships at PulsePoint; instrumental to the merger of ContextWeb and Datran Media.

    Originally from Armonk, NY, Jay holds a BS in Marketing from Syracuse University and a Certificate of Management from the University of Chicago. Jay resides in Rye Brook, NY with his wife, darling daughter, Olivia, and newborn son, Logan.

    Dan Bienenfeld
    President

    Dan Bienenfeld is currently the Co-Founder and President of KERV Interactive and a seasoned serial entrepreneur who has built startups for more than 35 years. Before joining KERV he has founded seven startups and architected successful exits for a number of them. For four years, he served as CEO of TimeCard Specialists, which created a cutting-edge time attendance software app that streamlined payroll for union members in the TV, film, and commercial industries. TimeCard Specialists was sold in 2016.

    Before that, he was CEO of Total Vision Care for nearly eight years. Total Vision Care built one of the largest mobile diagnostic services in eye care. This service provided ophthalmologists & optometrists with state of the art equipment and licensed technicians right in their own practice to diagnose various eye diseases.

    Gary Mittman
    Chief Executive Officer

    Gary Mittman is currently the Co-Founder and CEO of KERV Interactive and brings more than 30 years in technology and direct marketing, as well as substantial experience in building startups to exit with creativity and agile development. Before joining KERV he held numerous top-ranking leadership roles; Founder & President of Nami Media (which was acquired by Lin/Nexstar Media Group), CEO & Founder of Marina Communications (also acquired), and Vice President of New Business Development – Direct Response at Western International Media leading the team in the new frontier of Infomercials.

    Gary brings a decade of experience in the entertainment industry, including managing all tier one acts booking for New York City’s premiere performance nightclub “The Ritz” as its Executive Manager and Booking Agent, Executive Producer of the first MTV concert series “Live At The Ritz”, a Professional Manager at Chappell Music Publishing, and started out as an Assistant to legendary Clive Davis at Arista Records.

    Marika Roque is currently the Chief Strategy Officer at KERV Interactive, following four years as the company’s Chief Operating Officer. She is recognized for her expertise in digital media, data, and organizational infrastructures, with over 15 years of professional leadership experience. Prior to joining KERV, Marika worked as the Vice President of Digital Operations for Mass², a division of the multi-billion-dollar corporation Nexstar Digital LLC. Before that, she served as Vice President of Digital Media & Activation at LIN Digital and Nexstar, leading several departments while advising leadership on digital strategy during multiple acquisitions, including Media General, LKQD, Yashi, Dedicated Media, Federated Media, etc.

    Marika has held senior-level positions with leading agency and digital technology teams in Austin, Texas, including Sizmek and GSD&M, a subsidiary of the Omnicom Group. She also spent several years in Chicago working for FCB Global and Starcom MediaVest Group, a division of the Publicis Groupe. At Starcom, she played a key role in creating the first agency-side programmatic pipelines, contributing to what the industry now refers to as an agency trading desk. Her extensive experience in programmatic advertising dates back to its inception. She also worked on global client strategy and activation for brands like Newell Rubbermaid and their subsidiaries, including Paper Mate and Sharpie, as well as Microsoft B2B.

    Marika holds a bachelor’s degree in advertising from The University of Texas at Austin, where she was also a Division I collegiate athlete. Hook ’em.
